Hilton Head Island — Part 3

** Edit 11/15/10 — more pictures added to this post!!

I’ve leaned a few things about my kids while on vacation these past weeks………it’s fun realizing new things about your children.

So I’ll start with Carlos!

He LOVES to fish.

Carlos literally spent hours making fishing poles and gear from natural materials he found down at the beach…..vines he and Zeke pulled up from the sand dunes were used for the fishing line and a long stick he found in our yard served as the pole.  He also used a piece of shell for the hook and a crab leg for bate.

Carlos also knows no stranger when it comes to fishing!  The neighbor in the blue house beside the path we use to reach the beach loaned Carlos his tackle box and a fishing pole for the entire week!  He has no qualms about asking the fishermen along the beach how many fish they’ve caught or any other question that pops into his head.

I’m also so proud of Carlos.  I’ve noticed a huge difference in his ability to obey and play happily with the other kids rather than constantly hanging out with the adults asking questions.

But we still need to do some work on his definition of a “stranger”.  One of my sister’s had a conversation with Carlos that went something like this:

Sister:  “Carlos, you need to stop talking with strangers on the beach.”
Carlos:  “But he didn’t look strange to me!”
Sister:  “No, they don’t look strange, but we don’t know them.”
Carlos:  “Well, I could shake their hand and say, “I’m Carlos” and they could tell me their name and then we would know them!”
