7th Gotcha Day

Today we celebrate the 7thanniversary of Carlos and Jeremiah’s arrival home.  It was a good day……actually it was an amazingly calm day.  Carlos specifically asked for tacos and Jeremiah picked out the dessert…….cupcake brownies with chocolate icing……death by chocolate anyone!?!? During dinner Stephen told the story of how each child came into our family.  It was a really sweet time remembering.  After dinner we had a surprise for the kids…….watching Star Wars. Oh man, were they ALL excited……sans Jadyn who could care less about TV/movies unless it has a dog or pop music……she loves both.

Gotcha days are a little tricky for us.  So we decided several years ago to celebrate “family day”.  Once a year either in January, May or now August, we do something special as a family.  Having bio and adopted kids makes things a little tricky because Ben doesn’t really have a “gotcha” day because we’ve always “had” him.  Poor little boy already feels jilted because he doesn’t have any birth-siblings and no special “mama”either, so we celebrate being a family. But today seemed very important to Carlos this year!  He started asking about it a few weeks ago and we decided it would be good to have a little celebration today anyway.  This morning Carlos came up to me and said, “mommy, since today is a special day, I just wanted to say thanks for being my mom.  Do you think I could call Papi and tell him too?”  And he did.
