Colorado Trip part 2 — Swimming, Denver Children’s Museum and Rehearsal

Friday August 10,2012

We promised the kids that they could go swimming, so right after breakfast everyone got on their swim stuff and we headed down to the hotel pool.  Even though it wasn’t all that warm outside (yet), we had a fun time swimming in the in-door side of the pool with quick trips to the out-door side and then a long soak in the hot tub!  I took Jadyn back to the room for a little nap about 11 and then about 1 pm we went downtown Denver to the Children’s museum.

After our visit I wished we had about 2 or 3 more hours to spend there. The kids LOVED every minute, even Carlos who is getting a little old for children’s museums.  DCM has this great area for building things out of recycled household items (like toilet paper rolls, milk cartons, etc) where Carlos enjoyed making an airplane from popsicle sticks.

The middles loved the store with the pint-sized shopping carts and the bubble area.  Natalie and Jeremiah, especially, liked the bubble “cage” where you can be “bubbled in” on all four sides.

Jadyn and Ben had so much fun in the Center for Young Children.  This area was beautifully decorated with trees, stumps, a stream, a fishing boat (Ben’s favorite) and a house with a garden.  The entire area was very serene and a great play area for small children.

All too soon it was time to head over to WaterStone Community Church for the rehearsal.  Nothing wrong with rehearsals, I was just sad the kids didn’t have more time to play, but the church had a great little park right outside the main hallway and it had astroturf, so that’s a win-win……play at the park but no grass stains on your good clothes!  I missed most of the rehearsal since I was watching the kids and Stephen actually had a part in the wedding, so he needed to be in the sanctuary to know what to do and stuff.

After rehearsal we headed over to Burgers Plus (hilarious name for the restaurant that serves Greek food) for the dinner.  I’ve never had Greek food, so some of it was different, but delicious.  The fried zucchini was AMAZING!  And the salad was so tasty.  Actually everything I ate was very good.

After everyone was winding down on the food, Ashleigh’s dad stood up and thanked everyone for coming and said that they wanted each person in the room to share how they knew Lee or Ashleigh and a story/event about them. There were about 80 people attending the rehearsal dinner and the sharing time was AMAZING……way more amazing than the food.  Since we don’t know Ashleigh very well, it was extra special to hear stories from her friends and family and to hear stories about Lee and Ashleigh as a couple……it was just a beautiful time…….God was praised and glorified over and over.  And it was the longest rehearsal dinner I’ve ever attended!!  The kids did amazingly well for sitting “still”for almost 3 ½ hours.  Poor Ben was so tired out he fell asleep almost before he even finished his dinner and didn’t open his eyes or move a muscle even when Stephen put him in the van or took him out and carried him into the hotel!

Wedding post coming tomorrow!!
