Praise You in the Storm

Music is one of the most amazing things that God created.  It’s all around us…….birds, insects, wind, water……and most of the time we hardly recognize it or we shut the windows to keep the music out!  I think God created us to love music.  We can remember information by making up a silly little ditty.  Even my littlest children go about their day singing and most of the music they sing is what they’ve made up.

This past Saturday Stephen and I attended a Casting Crowns concert……the very first since we’ve had children.  It was fantastic!  You know it’s a good concert when, even though you’ve been on your feet ALL DAY, you still spend 95% of the 1.5 hour concert standing up!

Casting Crowns has a song called Praise You in the Storm (I’ve added the YouTube below, it’s WELL worth your time listening…..even if you’ve heard it a dozen times before).  I distinctly remember the first time I heard this song.  My brother-in-law Jonathan was singing the offertory.  I was sitting in the foyer with Jeremiah…..he was 14 months old.  My brother-in-law had been scheduled to sing for weeks, but how amazing that God orchestrated just the right song for my heart.  Just three days before my dad passed away from Leukemia.  As I listened to Jonathan singing I could not stop the tears…..and although it’s been four years since my daddy went to heaven, I could not stop the tears last Saturday either.

Praise You in the Storm
I was sure by now
God you would have reached down
And wiped our tears away
Stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say “Amen”, and it’s still raining

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain
“I’m with you”
And as You mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

I’ll praise You in this storm
And I will life my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
Every tear I’ve cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I remember when
I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry
You raised me up again
My strength is almost gone
How can I carry on
If I can’t find You

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
“I’m with you”
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

I lift my eyes unto the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The Maker of Heaven and Earth
