Life on the wild side

Living life on the wild side!  We took a field trip to the Safari on Friday ……it was super fun and super hot!  Our wagon ride was not until 2 p.m., but we went early and visited the other animals and had a picnic lunch.

The best part of the day was the wagon ride, or as the driver said, “buffet on wheels”.  Natalie and Ben were pretty timid around the animals at the beginning, but soon they were feeding them like a pro.

The camels are by far my favorites.  They are so friendly and slobbery….. well, I don’t care for the slobbery part!!

The large male, his name was Hercules, eats buckets…..yep, he got hold of someone’s bucket and chewed that thing up and swallowed it down the hatch.  Our diver said he does that many times a day.  Hercules was super friendly and stuck his big head into our wagon the entire time we were stopped.

The kids also got to hold an Ostrich egg.  It was gigantic!  One Ostrich egg is equal to 20 chicken eggs!

After our wagon ride, one of the keepers brought out a tortoise and all the kids got to touch him and hear all about him….actually I think it was girl, so they got to learn all about her.

This is Ben listening intently to the keeper

This is Ben when the tortoise peed on him

We had such a fun day!
