My friends Marion blogged the other day about educational movies/shows for kids. So I thought I would add my two cents worth and blog about my favorite kids DVDs. Since we live way out and get basically no TV reception and I like having control over what my kids watch (commercials are out of control!!), my boys don’t watch TV. But of course they love watching movies!! Here are my top picks:
— Max Lucado’s Hermie and Friends. I love the bright colors and animation. Not education as far as ABC/123, but each DVD has a good Biblical/moral lesson. And every month or two the Family Christian Store will have a Hermie on sale for $5!! That’s a price hard to beat!!
— Boz, the Green Bear Next Door. This is a cute set of DVDs that are educational for ABC/123’s. The only downside is Boz has a Barney feel to it. Not nearly as annoying (ok that’s my opinion, sorry for any Barney fans out there!!), but still slightly Barney.
— Carlos and Jeremiah LOVE Curious George. I’m not a huge fan of the Curious George full length movie (the interpersonal relationship between the older gentleman and his son gets me every time), but I really like the PBS Curious George’s that are based more on the books. I have only found these at Target.
— Leapfrog learning videos are great for learning letters and sounds. The story lines is actually pretty good too, which is important since you’ll be hearing it MANY times!
— And last is Gigi. I’ve gotten several Gigi’s for Natalie. My boys were not all that impressed with Gigi, but I think a little girl will love watching the Gigi movies!! Again, more of a Biblical/moral education. Oh and the Family Christian Store has these on sale for $5 too!!
