Pumpkin Time!

One of my all time favorite parts of autumn is our trip to the pumpkin patch.  We’ve gone the past three years and have enjoyed each time.  But I have to admit this year was by far the very best!!  Today was one of those days that you look back on and sigh a peaceful sigh with a smile on your face.  It was a gorgeous Indian summer day with lots of sunshine….the type of day that is just perfect for spending out in God’s creation all day long!!  And that’s exactly what we did!!

We arrive at the pumpkin patch a little before 9 am (which I thought was a touch too early, given we had a hour drive, but it turned out to be perfect!!).  We took our hay wagon ride to the pumpkin patch first.  My children love the “tractor” ride.  Our guide dropped us off just before the patch so we could walk the small corn maze which lead us right to the pumpkin patch.  Carlos took off with one of his friends to hunt the biggest pumpkin while Jeremiah and Natalie were content to search for the perfect small pumpkin. Poor Ben was stuck in the snuggly so he did not get to hunt for a pumpkin this year.  After collecting our pumpkins we headed back to the wagon for the ride back.

So many choices!!

Do you think this one is the biggest?

See I really did go

We went to a different pumpkin patch this year and wow, it was great!  They had all kinds of neat things for the kids to do, bigger kids and little kids too!!  They had these neat water pumps that flowed into rain gutters.  Each gutter had a toy duck that you could race down the rain gutter by pumping water….the faster you could pump the water the faster the duck floated…..it was lots of fun.  Carlos and Jeremiah liked racing the ducks and Natalie just liked pumping the water.

After pumping water, we went to visit the animals.  They were not very friendly animals so we did not stay for long, but headed up the hill for the Cow Train.  I think this was probably the all time favorite event of the day!!  Six or seven “cars” painted like cows were attached to an oversized lawn mower tractor….making a Cow Train.  The mower tractor traced the train around a large field and the kids had a BLAST!!  Even Natalie was able to ride.  You could only see her ponytail bopping up and down over the bumps!!

A close second to the Cow Train was the Corn Crib…..basically a huge “sand box” with corn instead of sand.  It was so much fun!!  Ben really enjoyed the Corn Crib.  Ok, he really enjoyed seeing how much corn he could stuff into his mouth before mom swiped it out….every minute or two!!  We played in the Corn Crib for over an hour and left happy and very dusty!!

What a fun FUN day!!
